At My Happy Flo, we've always believed in the power of natural solutions for menstrual and reproductive health. Now, we’re taking a significant step forward in proving the effectiveness of our approach with the launch of our clinical trial, officially registered on ClinicalTrials.gov. This trial will assess how My Happy Flo alleviates common period symptoms, including heavy menstrual bleeding.
For years, women facing menstrual health challenges have been offered limited options: birth control, painkillers, and in severe cases, surgery. While these solutions may offer relief, they often come with side effects and fail to address the root causes of discomfort. This can lead to worsening health issues, costly medical interventions, and multiple surgeries. At My Happy Flo, we saw the need for healthier, more holistic alternatives that work with a woman’s body, not against it.
Our clinical trial involves 40 participants who will use My Happy Flo over three menstrual cycles. Key outcomes being measured include the severity of heavy flows, duration of periods, intensity of cramps, mood changes, energy levels, cycle regulation, and fatigue. These assessments will be captured through validated questionnaires to ensure accuracy and consistency.
A crucial focus of the study is on blood markers, specifically Vitamin D and Iron levels, which will be measured at the beginning and end of the trial. This focus aligns with My Happy Flo's commitment to addressing health concerns prevalent among women of color. Studies have shown that Vitamin D deficiency is linked to a higher risk of fibroid growth in African-American women, and that supplementing with Vitamin D may help inhibit the growth of those tumors.
Addressing Unique Health Concerns for Women of Color
Founder Necole Kane explains the importance of these blood markers: "Incorporating blood markers into our clinical trials was a critical decision for My Happy Flo. We know that Black women are 2-3 times more likely to suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding and iron deficiency anemia, and they also have a higher risk of fibroid growth due to Vitamin D deficiency. That’s why it was important for us to include adequate dosages of Vitamin D3 and Iron in our product. By measuring Vitamin D3 and Iron levels before and after taking My Happy Flo, we’re validating our tailored approach to addressing these specific deficiencies in women of color, with solid data to back it up."
Another important factor contributing to the higher rates of heavy menstrual bleeding in Black women is the exposure to endocrine disruptors. These harmful chemicals, found in many products marketed toward Black women, mimic estrogen in the body and contribute to hormonal imbalances. Common beauty and personal care products like hair relaxers and skin lighteners often contain these disruptors, which can lead to estrogen dominance—a key driver behind heavy periods, fibroids, and other menstrual issues.
At My Happy Flo, we address this estrogen imbalance head-on by including Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C) and DIM in our formulation. These natural compounds, derived from cruciferous vegetables, help the body metabolize excess estrogen more effectively, supporting hormonal balance. This combination of DIM and Indole-3-Carbinol is a unique aspect of our product, making My Happy Flo one of the only period supplements on the market that specifically targets the root cause of heavy periods through natural estrogen metabolism.
Over the years, through surveying our customers, and analyzing hundreds of reviews, we noticed a large demographic of women with fibroids and symptoms of heavy bleeding who were gravitating toward our product. This data further solidified our belief that My Happy Flo was addressing more than just PMS symptoms—it was helping alleviate the debilitating effects of conditions like fibroids and hormone-related disorders. As a result, we don’t want to be seen as just another PMS supplement; My Happy Flo is a comprehensive solution for balancing hormones, improving menstrual health, and addressing the root causes of menstrual trauma in women of color.
A Personalized, Science-Backed Approach to Period Wellness
Through this clinical trial, My Happy Flo aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of our personalized, natural approach to balancing hormones, alleviating menstrual symptoms, and reducing the risks of conditions like fibroids, PCOS, endometriosis, and hormone-related cancers. These conditions, often tied to hormonal imbalances and micronutrient deficiencies, disproportionately affect women of color.
"This isn’t just about creating another period or PMS supplement; it’s about developing a targeted solution that addresses the root causes of menstrual trauma in our community," Necole emphasizes. "Our commitment to these trials reflects our dedication to transparency and efficacy. We’re not just hoping our products work—we’re proving it scientifically, with a focus on the unique needs of Black women’s bodies. Women deserve healthier options beyond traditional treatments that only mask symptoms."
A New Era Of Women's Health
This clinical trial marks just the beginning. By backing our products with scientific evidence, we’re not only improving what we offer, but we’re also helping change the narrative around women’s health—particularly for women of color. As Necole puts it, "This research allows us to refine our formulations to ensure that every woman using My Happy Flo is getting exactly what she needs—not just for her periods, but for her overall health. This is preventative care. We’re offering an alternative to the one-size-fits-all approach that has dominated women’s health for too long."
As we embark on this journey towards better, more personalized menstrual health, we invite our community to stay informed and engaged. The results of these clinical trials will validate our approach and contribute to a broader understanding of women’s health, especially for communities that have historically been underserved and overlooked in medical research and the vitamins and supplements industry.
At My Happy Flo, our mission remains clear: to empower women to take control of their menstrual health in a way that supports their overall well-being. We’re not just changing periods—we’re changing lives.
